Kyle Shepard 2012 Season and B2B Race Report

In 2012, I completed my 5th year of racing triathlons.  I suffered what I consider to be a disappointing season in 2011 that culminated with a less-than-expected performance at Ironman Wisconsin. I still have not come to terms with my performance at that particular event. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects of that season, I focus on the positive things.  There were a lot of lessons learned that year. In fact, the things I learned built the foundation for my 2012 season. One good thing was that my biking improved dramatically.

During the late winter and early spring, I focus my efforts on running, which is what I like to do best.  My spring goal was to run a fast half marathon at Wrightsville Beach, an awesome place to set a PR. I recovered from 2011 and trained well.  Of course you never know what to expect on race day. The warm temperatures and extreme humidity contributed to me falling short of my goal, but I still earned a PR. For that I was satisfied.
